Well the Hot, Hot, Hot weather is here and not going away anytime soon. Along with the hot weather comes lots of problems with your lawn. Dry spots, weeds, bugs & fungus. Having a great lawn is not rocket science is just requires some simple steps.

1. Don't overwater, instead try watering less days but for longer on each zone. This will help promote strong root growth.

2. Move your blade up. Most people cut the lawn way too low, exposing the roots to the hot sun effectively  burning up the entire lawn.

3.Spot treat for weeds, instead of using a weed and feed try selectively killing weeds with a product like weed b gone.

4.Check for bugs. peel back the grass near dry spots to see if something is eating away at your roots and treat properly.

5. Don't water at night to prevent fungus. It is best to water early in the morning to prevent wasting water to evaporation.

6. Overseed whenever possible. More grass equals less weeds.

These simple tips will have you and your neighbors green with envy.

The Farmstead is a 12-acre park. It has farm animals, birds of prey, vegetable and flower gardens, a one-room country schoolhouse, old time fishing pond, horse drawn wagon rides and pony rides.

Admission is free.

The farmstead first opened in 1978 and was renamed in 1985 to honor Deanna Rose, an Overland Park police officer killed in the line of duty.
