Why you should connect Google Fiber to your house

Google made a landmark announcement yesterday, their long awaited 1 GB per second internet is now taking reservations for Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri Fiberhoods (their term for neighborhoods) It will cost $10 to reserve your space and you will have until September 9th to make your reservation. Google will have 3 separate plans that will include the super fast internet, cable TV and free internet at a slower speed. If you choose the free internet it will cost you $300 for Google to connect the fiber optic cable to your house. This is something that everyone should consider and here is why.

Google is going to to start connecting the fiberhoods based on the highest amount of reservations it receives by September 9th. They are only going to make connections to each neighborhood once and only once. So if you miss your chance to get connected you will not get another. While you may not want or need the service, the connection could become very valuable. Think in terms of resale value? Do you think someone would choose to purchase your home or maybe be willing to pay more money to purchase your home because you have Google Fiber connected? As we become more technology driven as a society, the need for fast internet connection speeds will become very valuable. While the average person may not need that kind of speed. There are people like gamers and internet entrepreneurs who opperate their own servers who will absolutely want and need this type of coonection. I forsee people who will be looking specifically for homes that are connected to Google Fiber.

While you may not want or need Google Fiber, consider it's future value before you decide not to reserve your space, it may difference between For Sale and SOLD several years down the road.
